Police arrested Hassaan Niazi for resisting at the police checkpoint
Hassaan Niazi, head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's legal affairs centre, Imran Khan, was arrested on Monday, police officials told Geo News.
The police arrested Niazi for resisting at the police checkpoint.
Niazi was detained at Islamabad's Raman Police Station after attending the ATC where cases were filed against PTI leaders and workers.
Party leaders involved in the trial included Shibli Faraz, Omar Ayub, Raja Khurram, Aamir Mehmood Kiani and Farrukh Habib, among others.
All top leaders and party workers were charged with terrorism in Saturday's violence outside the court complex, where Khan's non-chargeable warrant was canceled in the Toshakhan case.
PTI workers clashed with the police on Saturday and damaged public property. They also torched 10 police motorcycles and overturned a police car in front of the court complex.
When the prime minister, who was sent home last April after a vote of no confidence in the government, arrived late at the court complex, clashes forced him to leave the house.
Terrorist accused Faraz arrived in court today in a wheelchair.
The police had gone to arrest the PTI leader at his house the previous day.
The court approved the bail application of PTI leaders Farrukh Habib, Raj Khurram, Shibli Faraz and Aamir Mehmood Kiani, Myrat Saeed, Muhammad Asim, Hammad Azhar, Ghulam Sarwar and Hassaan Niazi.
Hassan Niazi 'kidnapped'
PTI, meanwhile, said Khan's main focus on the legal issue was that Nosherwan police chief Ali Chandy was "stolen" despite being granted bail in all the cases filed against him.
"This is the highest level of police brutality. Lawyer Hassaan Niazi, who was granted bail by the court, was kidnapped," the party tweeted.
"Lawyer @HniaziISF has been illegally kidnapped by SP Nausherwan @ICT_Police.
The forum asked the country's top court to take cognizance of this "blatant violation of the law".
PTI leader Farrukh Habib wrote that the police have been deployed on both sides of the ATC to "contain".
The lawyer informed me about their intentions; I ran away from them and ran away after getting bail," he said.
PTI senior vice president Fawad Chaudhry called Niazi's arrest "unacceptable" on Twitter.
Fawad tweeted: “The arrest of @HniaziISF is unacceptable, detained from court.
The party's general secretary Asad Umar condemned the development and said the constitution was enforced after Niazi's arrest.
None of the children were arrested by the police
Meanwhile, a police spokesman in the capital, Islamabad, denied allegations that a 10-year-old boy had been arrested in connection with propaganda against the police and other law enforcement agencies.
"The police did not arrest ten-year-old children. Hateful propaganda is spread on social media so that we do not fulfill our legal obligations," he said.
The ICC said the police did their duty and remained within the law.
"The law is the same for everyone.
Earlier today, the PTI chief alleged that the Islamabad police raided houses without permission to abduct PTI workers and "abducted" a 10-year-old child when the workers were not at home.
Children from 10 years were taken where there were no workers.
Khan also demanded the "immediate release" of party workers and children.
