KARACHI: Oil Minister Mossadegh Malik said on Wednesday that people cannot get gas 24 hours a day, 7 days a week due to low supplies.

Pakistan relies heavily on natural gas for energy, and increasing demand and short supply are causing load shedding in many parts of the country on a daily basis.

This scenario is exacerbated during Ramadan, especially during Suhoor and Iftar when Pakistanis use gas more for cooking and other purposes.

But speaking to reporters in Karawang, the minister said gas loading will take place between magic hours and iftar without specifying the exact time.

The problem of gas shortage in Karachi was brought to the attention of Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif and he ordered the concerned authorities to ensure uninterrupted supply of goods.

He said: The process of gas supply must be monitored and no fault is allowed.

Last week, Sui South Gas Corporation (SSGC) announced its decision to stop financing power generation and industry as the gap between gas supply and demand widens.

The gas plant said the decision was taken due to low gas supply. He said the drop in supply has reduced the amount of gas in the pipeline.

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) responded that due to lack of gas supply to industries in Karachi, these industries cannot work without gas and will have to stop production. Requested immediate action.

"Despite many attitudes and challenges, it is not fair to Karachi's business community that Karachi contributes about 54% in exports and more than 68% in revenue," said KCCI President Muhammad Tariq Yusuf.

Malik told reporters that the trip to Karachi was aimed at solving the gas supply problems of the people and asking for the payment of water and electricity bills.

The country's finance minister said: "The rich-poor gas law has been abolished. The rich must now pay more."
