Lahore: A delegation of civil society and human rights groups led by Imtiaz Alam visited Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan at Zaman Park on Tuesday.
This delegation discussed with Imran about the current political situation in the country and suggested solutions to reduce the political temperature in the country through dialogue. After this meeting, Imtiaz Alam told the media that the current situation of the country is so critical that it can lead to political and constitutional collapse. He suggested that all political forces should create an acceptable electoral framework.
He told the media that the chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf has taken the proposal of the delegation seriously and said that the proposed meeting will have the approval of Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He also added that it is not possible to hold free, fair and peaceful elections in these critical conditions.
Imtiaz Alam also considered the implementation of Article 144 and the arrest of political activists very inappropriate. He added that any attempt to keep Imran away from the election campaign will be opposed and this is in the interest of political leaders.
On this occasion, Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Fawad Chaudhry also approved the idea of APC to discuss the election. He said that it is necessary for political forces to design a strategy for holding general elections in Pakistan.
Fawad also expressed concern about the mass arrest of Tehreek-e-Insaf workers in recent repressions. He said he had also discussed the APC proposals for the polls with Imran and now it was time to move forward.
Parvez Khattak, the leader of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party, during a media interview, wondered why the government is running away from the polls. He said that peace in the country is only related to new polls.
