Sahib Al Zaman/Rahim Yarkhan: On Tuesday, a woman and a man were killed and several others were injured at flour distribution stations in different cities. People's protest against the government's misbehavior with the flour quota.
The first crowding happened in Sahiwal and many people came to get free flour and women also stood in long queues. As time went by, the crowd grew impatient and tried their best to get hold of the sacks of flour.
As a result, one woman died and 46 people were injured. The injured have been taken to DHQ hospital, where the condition of one of them is reported to be critical.
Meanwhile, Sahiwal deputy commissioner and district police officers are present at the place. There were also reports of police pointing batons at people asking for flour. After contacting DPO Sahiwal Inspector Asif Sarwar of the PRO, the charges against Batum were dismissed.
In Rahim Yarkhan, a 73-year-old man was trampled while trying to get free flour and several others were injured. Anwar Din died in Iyamin Gate.
In Jang, women protested after an old woman was tortured at the flour counter at a government graduate men's college. The women claimed that the staff discriminated against them while distributing the bags of flour.
In Nankana Sahib, people complained that they faced serious problems due to mismanagement of free flour stations. They protested in Mukunda and burnt tires and blocked roads in Jalanwala and Lahore. They said staff were taking advantage of favorites while they had to stand in long lines for hours just to get a bag of flour, but they still didn't get it.
