ISLAMABAD: Amid a fresh wave of Covid-19 cases in Pakistan, health officials on Tuesday announced that 50 cases have been reported across the country in the past 24 hours.

According to data shared by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the positive rate of cases was 1.77%. Meanwhile, the condition of 23 patients is reported to be critical.

While 2,818 Covid-19 tests have been conducted, no deaths from the virus have been reported in the last 24 hours.

421 tests were conducted in Lahore, of which 8 were confirmed at a rate of 1.90%. On the other hand, in Islamabad, 234 tests were conducted, out of which 8 tests were reported, the confirmed rate of which is 3.42%. On the other hand, in Rawalpindi, 5 out of 295 tests were confirmed at a rate of 1.69%.

Abdul Qadir Patel, Minister of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, said the government is strengthening the role of Pakistan's border and health services in dealing with the subspecies of the virus.

He added: Monitoring systems have been installed in all entry points of the country, including airports. He added: Rapid testing and screening of passengers is done in all airports.

He added: 90 percent of the country's population has been vaccinated against Covid-19.

The Minister of Health said: An efficient system with sufficient management team in the country to maintain vigilance and prepare for emergency plans to deal with the type of Covid-19 is fully operational.

Patel said the health system is fully prepared to deal with the Omicron variant of COVID-19, including Pakistan's BF.7, should an adverse situation arise.
