Authorities say the debilitating disease affected both of the boy's legs

Polio virus was detected in a 3-year-old boy from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). This will be the first case of a disabled person in the country in 2023.

Health officials have confirmed that a minor boy, a resident of Gula Baka Kal, Bano, has contracted the virus.

This paralyzing disease has affected both legs of the young boy. Officials said the patient and his family had no history of travel.

On January 24, Abdul Qadir Patel, Minister of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, confirmed the first detection of wild poliovirus in environmental samples in Lahore in 2023.

However, viruses are regularly detected in wastewater. According to Pakistan's National Institutes of Health (NIH) Polio Research Institute, the polio virus found in Gulshan Ravi's sample last November was found to be associated with Afghanistan's Nangarhar province.

Meanwhile, Patel said the two countries "are united in the fight against the virus and are working together to eradicate this deadly disease."

He renewed the government's commitment to completely eradicate crippling diseases from the country.

He added that the isolation of the virus is a cause for concern, but it is good that the virus was detected so quickly.

Emphasizing the need for timely vaccination of children, the Health Minister said, "Especially in Lahore, it is very important for parents and guardians to ensure that their children are vaccinated in the February round." "
